Naan Bread

This Simple Naan bread is so quick to make and this Indian bread takes no baking. You can make this naan in a skillet. This flatbread is soft, light and fluffy with beautiful brown blisters just like those served in Indian restaurants!

For the naan breads

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon dried instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • ¾ cup warm water
  • 2 tablespoon oil
    For the Garlic Butter
  • ½ cup salted butter
  • 2 cloves of garlic grated
  • 1 teaspoon fresh chopped cilantro

FOR NAAN BREAD

  1. Combine together the water, sugar, yeast, flour baking powder, oil and salt.
    Mix until the dough comes together with your hands.
  2. Turn dough out onto lightly floured surface. Use floured hands to knead the dough until smooth, about 10 minutes.
  3. Lightly grease the same mixing bowl with oil. Transfer dough to the bowl and cover with plastic wrap. Let rest at room temperature for about an hour until doubled in size.
  4. When ready to cook, divide the dough into 6 equal pieces. Roll into balls, then use a rolling pin to roll each piece of dough into a large oval Repeat with remaining dough.
  5. Heat a large cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Place one piece of the naan on the hot skillet and cook until bubbles form on top about 1-2 minutes.

6.Flip and cook for another 2 minutes, until large golden spots appear on the bottom. Remove from the skillet and wrap in a clean kitchen towel. Repeat with the remaining naan.

FOR GARLIC BUTTER TOPPING

  1. Combine melted butter and minced garlic together in a bowl. Brush each naan with the garlic butter and top with the fresh cilantro of your choosing enjoy.
